Chandigarh: After a tiffin bomb was found near Chandigarh’s Hi-tech Model Burail Jail, the administration has decided to tighten the security of the jail. Many hard-core terrorists associated with Babbar Khalsa terrorist organization are imprisoned here.

The jail authorities said 45 high-resolution CCTV cameras will be installed within 14 acres of Burail Jail and an Under Vehicle Security System (UVSS) will also be installed. Through this, any object hidden on the floor of any vehicle can be seen. The floor of a vehicle moving at a speed of 30 km per hour can also be checked with this modern system. This type of UVSS exists in only a few prisons in the country. It consists of a camera and an automatic registration recording system. Apart from these, there is also a plan to install boom barriers at the entry gate to prevent heavy vehicles up to 9 tonnes. This boom barrier will also have the ability to stop a fast-approaching heavy vehicle. At present, there is a multi-layer barrier of iron gates in the Burail Jail. At present, the Chandigarh Administration has floated tenders for the purchase of CCTV cameras and UVSS. A special boom barrier will also be procured soon. The Home Secretary has approved this purchase.

Following the recovery of a tiffin bomb near the jail wall, IG (Prisons) Deepak Purohit had held several meetings regarding the security arrangements, under which these measures were considered and a plan was also made to implement them.

Akal Takht chief gets Sikh Commando in Z security cover.

Dinesh K Sharma

Amritsar: Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, who had refused government security, has now given his consent to have the Centre-sponsored security cover, but with a condition.

The Jathedar has agreed to have only ‘Sikh’ security personnel with him because it will be easy for them to understand the religious code of conduct. Six ‘Sikh’ security guards from the CRPF have been deployed in his security. The SGPC task force and Punjab police commando attached with the Jathedar, will continue to escort him.

Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh had refused security from the Punjab and Union Government after which the Sikh youth offered to provide security to the Jathedar themselves. Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the showmanship committee, provided 12 employees of the committee for the security of the Jathedar and President Dhami had said that the arbitrariness of the committee would protect the Jathedar.

The Centre had decided to give the ‘Z’ grade security cover to the Jathedar consisting of over 20 paramilitary jawans. He had declined to accept it, saying that it would hinder his duty as a Jathedar of the Akal Takht as the security would prevent him from mingling with devotees. Despite his refusal, the Centre has deputed six CRPF security guards with him. It is learnt that once the full brigade will join the Jathedar’s security cover, some will be deputed at his residence and office at Talwandi Sabo, some outside the Akal Takht Secretariat in Amritsar and rest will escort him during his programmes outside in a separate vehicle.

Akal Takht Secretariat staff said the security guards had been directed neither to enter any gurdwara nor the Jathedar’s office.

The Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation in Pakistan expresses concern about the rise in the Kartarpur Corridor’s admission fee.

Chandigarh: Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, Chairman of the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan, has expressed his displeasure with the increase in the cost of entering the Kartarpur Corridor from Rs.200 to Rs.400 for Pakistani devotees.

Qureshi, a lawyer and social activist, is also seeking Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s innocence in court because his name did not appear in the FIR on the basis of which he and his associates – Rajguru and Sukhdev – were hanged. He has also advocated for the renaming of Shadman Chowk as Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk and the production of a postage stamp honouring him.

Qureshi condemned the Evacuee Trust Pakistan’s decision to raise the entry cost to the Kartarpur Corridor for Pakistani citizens from Rs 200 to Rs 400, and claimed the directives may be revoked if the fee is raised.

It may be recalled that His Excellency Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff, opened the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan on November 9, 2019, in response to a demand, said Qureshi, adding that the people of Pakistan and India have become closer, while hatred has diminished and love has flourished, and the era of difference of opinion is almost over.

“We urge the Pakistani government to reverse the rise in entry fee prices and make them completely free for all visitors,” he added
